TMS Therapy for Depression
Millions of Americans live with depression. While many can find relief through psychotherapy or antidepressants, some symptoms persist through these treatments. TMS therapy is a way to minimize your major depressive order (MDD) symptoms when you need another option.
While depression may result from a number of factors, many severe cases involve a disparity of important brain chemicals like serotonin. TMS treatment encourages the brain to produce the chemicals you need to feel better.
Researchers are still determining exactly how TMS treatment works, but a few certainties exist. Your doctor will use a magnetic pulse to stimulate brain function in areas of the brain that researchers believe depression inhibits. TMS therapy is a noninvasive, drug-free treatment.
Treatment Options for MDD in Hollywood
At My TMS, we offer two unique TMS therapy methods at our Hollywood office. Both treatment options for MDD are noninvasive outpatient procedures.
MagStim Repetitive TMS
MagStim Repetitive TMS (rTMS) is the first FDA-approved form of TMS treatment. During rTMS treatment, your doctor will position a device over the front of your head that pulsates magnetic energy to stimulate brain function. The treatment affects the area directly under the coil.
BrainsWay Deep TMS
BrainsWay Deep TMS (dTMS) is a revolutionary treatment that offers a more comfortable way to receive TMS therapy. During dTMS, you’ll wear a helmet that features BrainWay’s H-coil technology, which creates a deeper, wider treatment field. This TMS therapy approach is ideal if you have a history of back pain, neck pain or difficulty being still for long periods.
What to Expect From Our Hollywood Location
Both forms of TMS treatment are safe, effective, and noninvasive. When you visit our Hollywood office for TMS therapy, you’ll sit in a comfortable chair where you can relax as your doctor places the treatment device on your head and begins emitting magnetic pulses. You’ll hear a clicking sound and feel tapping on your skull from the treatment device.
You’ll receive TMS treatment for a few minutes a day, five days a week, for four to six weeks. As a noninvasive outpatient procedure, you’ll remain awake for the duration of your treatment, and you can drive home immediately after.
TMS treatment is painless, but some patients experience discomfort or facial twitches. Possible side effects include insomnia, dizziness, memory loss, headaches and jaw pain. A seizure may occur in rare cases.
